I'm watching tv with my hubby, when a commercial for a financial loans place comes on. A lady (using the term loosely) is standing there with a handfull of gold jewelry. A friend comes along and asks about it.
First female: It's from my ex. See this bracelet?
Second female: It's so small.
First female: So was he.
Voiceover comes on to talk about melting it down and trading it in for cash.
WTF?? I lost my marbles, screaming at the tv and Steve about how that should be bloody illegal. Gee, why do men have issues?? Even if they didn't, after a commercial like that, would it put the thought in their head? Is it REALLY necessary to use that in advertising? If they had guys with a fat linked necklace "So was she" would NEVER fly. So why is this okay????
Holy SHIT did that make me mad.

thats been my point all along. why is it ok to take low blows like that to smaller guys in the media and movies? if someone were to do the same thing about a womans weight or a persons mental/physical disabilities, thered be riots in the streets. but this? its just good for a laugh.

... that should be bloody illegal.
 (sorry, that bit got me)
Is this commercial on YouTube?

...as far as fat people are concerned (and fat women specifically) I think there's been tons of derogatory references thrown their way in movies and in media. I can see a fat people organization getting up in arms and protesting this commercial, but a "small-endowed" men's group? Not gonna happen.
Yes, the comment in the commercial could have found some other avenue to get their point across, and it's really quite bold in it being sexually suggestive for TV advertising. If it isn't the blatant "male enhancement" pills being thrown out in our faces, it's snuck into commercials such as this.

It does suck that is is acceptable to make fun of small penises. I don't think people realize how hurtful they are being, whether it is in an ad, movie, or just a joke among friends.

It's just an extension of the general male bashing of our culture. Advertisers use "single" mothers all the time. Fathers are portrayed as clueless, bumbleing ingrates who live only for beer and football. Women can do no wrong, there's usually a lowlife male behind their troubles.
Whatever your problem, it is the other person's fault, so to denigrate the ex absolves her of any responsibility for the relationship's demise.

I'm afraid people DO REALIZE how hurtful it is. That's why they do it!
Before there was "push back" from the group affected people were gleeful about putting down other races, ethnic groups, the handicapped, etc.
If our penises were locate in the middle of our foreheads (ie. obvious like other "challenges"), we probably would push back and make it verboten to mention. . . as it is, we don't want to revealal ourselves unnecessarily. . . quite an interesting dilema.
Only one guy here that I know of would actually appear in public to "push back". . . what the hell was his moniker? He used to go bonkers when I said a small penis is a handicap, not insurmountable, but a handicap.

It isn't OK to suggest a black man is any less intelligent than a white man but it used to happen all of the time. It isn't OK to make out that people with disabilities might be somehow less than complete human beings. It isn't OK to suggest that single mothers with lots of kids are lazy drains on society. It isn't Ok to think that people from lower socio-economic backgrounds have any less right to be treated the same as the rich. So, it isn't OK to make it seem like a man is less of one because of his penis size.
It is now illegal for most of this kind of prejudice to be shown publicly or said openly though you can't stop people thinking it.
Why do some guys have issues? Maybe because it is allowed so therefore there might be some truth in what's being said. Of course this is nonsense but it's understandable some might feel that way. Until a stand (or should that be an erection) is made it will continue to happen. I think it probably has some tiny effect even on those of us who have no hangups about being small, like anything if it's said often enough.
It's illegal to discriminate against people with disabilities or use that disability against them in any way. I have a disability and can see the funny side of disability jokes sometimes but then I can see the funny side of most things. However penis size can't be classed as a disability even if some men see it that way. It's certainly not a race issue.
All of the other groups are very vocal and have public faces but are you going to find a big group of men willing to go public and admit they have small penises and are tired of being made fun of? I suspect not as they'll just be laughed at and humiliated. So if men won't complain and have it made illegal then it will continue to happen.
I doubt the world is really going to take much notice of just me getting up in public saying "I am not a gnat, I am a human being".

Amen to that. I'm sick of male bashing on tv. I refuse to buy any product that portrays men as self-absorbed idiots.

just a question to teevee. your avatar icon cartoon seems to embellish this very topic unless Im seeing it wrong. It looks like a woman reacting (badly) to what one must assume is a small penis, or misshapen, or dirty or something. lol.

I see it differently. I love your avatar, teevee! In fact, it's my favorite one on this site. The girl's look of abject horror is hysterically funny, and it's clearly all in jest. Don't change a thing. (And if you do, send me a copy first.)

Guys!
I love it, too, but also see it slightly differently, as well. To me, the look is one of utter, unabashed amazement,-- "Like, OMG, do I really have to handle all of THAT???"
In any case, I, like RoughPoint, don't see it as a negative. And since nothing is directly shown, when it comes to the matter of size and/or disfigurement, or any other possibility, it's up to one's own imagination and predisposed attitude and mind-set to read it how one will. Basically put, those who think positive, will view her reaction from a positive frame of reference, while those who insist upon seeing the negative wherever they look, will, no doubt, interpret it negatively.
I think it's a perfect, ambiguously harmless avatar, very much on-topic. So, exactly how you read it tells us much more about you the reader/viewer, and your predisposed perception and outlook, than it does about teevee, who, btw, remains anonymously cool, calm, and collected, with only his (cute) bare ass exposed.

I guess it can be taken many ways. I always thought of it as kind of absurd and funny, and like Roughpoint said, in jest. It's from the cartoons that appear on Dan Savage's column, at least when it appears on the Onion online. If I remember right, someone wrote in concerned about his small penis, and Dan basically told him it wasn't a big deal.

But that's what is great about Homer....he makes fun of all those stupid male characters in other TV shows.

To my eyes, at least at the postage stamp size view of your avatar, her eyebrows give her a angry yet shocked expression.
Do you have a link to that Dan Savage article, or do you remember to elaborate on it?

Found it.....
Here is the original article.
And here are extra reader responses. This link has the image I use as an avatar.

Hey Teevee!
There you go!!
I think most of us have been saying exactly the same thing here, as well.
Well, all except for the whiners themselves who seemingly expect us to hold their hands while they bewail their "unfortunate" fate and moan about "Woe is me."

Thanks. Do you think Dan Savage has that opinion because he might be well-endowed himself? Just a thought.

OH MAN!!! I know exactly the commercial. I think I mentioned it somewhere else on the forum.
It didn't really upset me in the sense that I was hurt by it (because I'm confident in who I am now), however i know years ago it would have really set me back. It's a pretty stupid, ignorant commercial. What kind of a dumbass advertiser puts that in a commcercial?!? Like you said, what purpose does it serve? I was pretty offended. I can't believe someone actually thought it would be a good idea.
Actually here is my post here: http://www.measurection.com/fusionbb/showtopic.php...
I thought it was for money mart, but yes, it was for a place that trades in or melts down gold or something.
