The Larger Your Penis, The More Likely Your Wife Will Cheat Says New Study

Men often view having a large member as a symbol of strength and sexual prowess. But it turns out, when it comes to keeping a woman satisfied, bigger may not be better.

Contrary to popular belief, a new study out of Kenya found that husbands with larger penises were more likely to be cheated on by their wives (shocking, we know).

For the study -- published this month in PLOSOne -- researchers interviewed 545 married couples in Kenya in order to better understand their relationship habits and, more specifically, to identify factors which contributed to women having extramarital affairs.

Researchers asked both partners to self-report the male's erect penis size (they had a 15 inch ruler on hand for reference). Then, if there were differences between the estimates (which there were), they either took the average of the two or went with the estimate from the partner who was less likely to fib.

What they found was rather shocking:

"Every one inch longer penis increased the likelihood of women being involved in extra-marital partnership by almost one-and-half times," the researchers wrote. "Women associated large penises with pain and discomfort during sex which precludes the enjoyment and sexual satisfaction that women are supposed to feel."

In fact, one woman interviewed for the study told the researchers the following: "Some penis may be large yet my vagina is small, when he tries to insert it inside, it hurts so much that I will have to look for another man who has a smaller one [ penis ] and can do it in a way I can enjoy."

According to the study, 6.2 percent of the 545 females had affairs during the six-month study. Other factors that increased the likelihood of women straying outside the marriage included domestic violence, being denied sex or denied preferred sexual position, being under age of 25 and a lack of sexual satisfaction.

Researchers focused on female infidelity specifically because of the prevalence and spread of HIV among women in the region. Researchers felt if they could identify reasons for unprotected sex, they might better prevent it.

I wonder how different the results would have been if the "study" was done in the US or another western culture.

Yeah, I suppose we have to wonder about that old racial stereotype. Maybe there aren't enough "ultra-large" in America for this to apply?

On the other hand, I have heard considerable complaints from women about the ultra large here in America. Certainly, the ultra large have to be more careful and considerate to satisfy a woman.

Maybe there are cultural factors in Nigeria militating against carefulness and consideration. No doubt, I think, that women's lib is retarded in Nigeria as compared to Western countries. After all, I believe female circumcision is still practiced in much of Nigeria. Circumcision of women is for the convenience of men who don't want to be bothered by the needs of women when using them as "holes" for pounding!

The method by which the numbers were obtained leaves much to be desired, but unless I read the table wrong, the average size amongst the 511 univolved in extra-marital sex was about 5 inches and amongst the 34 involved in extra-marital sex about 6 inches.

What had me worried was:

"...Other factors that increased the likelihood of women straying outside the marriage included domestic violence, being denied sex or [color:red]denied preferred sexual position, being under age of 25 and a [color:red]lack of sexual satisfaction..."

The highlighted parts I've often seen attributed to small penises!

Hi NRMN,

You're right, guys with small penises worry about those, too. But I think the important take away is the part about denial. It seems like the study's main result is that men not caring for their wives puts them at risk of being cheated on. Having a big dick and not giving his wife time to warm up before intercourse is just one of many, but the HuffPost wanted to claim it as the main result.

No, I don't think so. IQR according to Wikipedia is a range that includes 50% of the population. So 50% of the population is between 5 and 6 which makes sense. But I don't understand how the IQR can be the same 5-6 for the larger cheating group? I must not understand this chart.

Each 1" extra length increased likelihood of cheating by 1.5 times. The median of the cheating group is 6" which is quite a dramatic difference. It means 1/2 of the cheating group are 6" or more.

No doubt, however, a chart of the the number cheating at each length would be more lurid and thus far more interesting! It would take more statistical ability than I have to make such a chart from the data given.

...I can't help but notice that 6.2% cheating is kind of small. It could be due to a short study period, but a factor of 1.5 puts the cheating rate at 1 in 10 for partners of endowed men -- still pretty small, if you ask me.

Last I heard the numbers in the US are 40% for women and 60% for men over a lifetime, meaning that almost half of all married people will cheat and approximately three quarters of all marriages will experience infidelity.

Just a little bit of perspective.

Ah, I confused the terms median and mean again. As for the IQR, I don't know! Perhaps there were a few particularly small ones to bring the ratio down, amongst those involved in extramarital affairs.

Hehe. Yeah, I saw through the attention grabbing title and their glossing over all the other factors involved. While the part I quoted came as no surprise to me, it was still a blow to my already shaky self-esteem now that "science" confirmed it!

I figure denying a favoured position can be "No, don't want to" or "Sorry, can't; too small!"

I should really stop reading articles like this, they prove to be nothing more than kerosene to the already blazing inferno that is my insecurity. Never any solace in them!

I totally agree with you! I quit reading women's magazines a long time ago for exactly that reason. This "science" isn't proof that large or small is better, it's just an article about some numbers that someone wanted to make sound scandalous about penises.

Best to ignore crap that doesn't make you happy.

Well another stupid study....sometimes I wonder if those people really don't have anything better to do with their time...

I was very active sexually with women in my teenager years and early twenties.

Being on the big side of the size spectrum I can tell you that as desirable it might be to have a big dick it is in no way easier to please a woman.

As a teenager I was more than once very frustrated when the girl was in pain when having sex or even so afraid it didn't even come to sex.

What I learned was that to please a woman is not a matter of size but technique.

So if this study claims that the bigger the dick the more likely it will be the woman will look for sex elsewhere, it's because those men don't know how to please a woman. Sad, if this is true.

By the way, my big dick "problem" was solved once I slept with older women who taught me what to do exactly (not only with my dick).

Everything has to be learned.
