We all know a about physical examinations, you know, the kind where your doctor makes you cough while he feels your balls and let’s not forget to mention the fun digital rectal exam.  
 

At least my doctor confirmed I was an average size and had normal physiological development and responses LOL. My sac was very loose during the exam and I did end up getting an erection in front of him. I was so embarrassed. I have never had that experience of getting full blown erection in front of another male. It was a weird feeling. 

Do you guys feel like their was anything to be embarrassed about ?

Here is what I am packing: 

My erection measures 5.25 inches (bone pressed) and my flaccid penis measures 2.5 inches. Girth is around 4.5 inches. 4.75 at the base of my cock.  Also, my penis is very straight, but it curves to left slightly, which I think all guys do.

Am I slightly below average or would you agree I am average based on description.

I for one think it was very cool that you got an erection in front of the doctor.  Erections are the best thing ever and something we should all be proud of.  I wish I could be comfortable getting hard in front of others. And I wish other guys would just be accepting of others getting hard and that we could even compliment someone we saw with an erection.

Oh wow, thank you. Yes, your right, we (us guys) should be proud of their members. It’s a challenge to get hard spot on command, naturally mine was unintended but no shame.  Yes, I agree, it’s a taboo subject for most men, erections and being around other men. I remember taking swimming lessons as a prime teenage and getting my first hard on in public. Boy was that humiliating but a valuable lesson. Thank you for the compliment on my erection. 5.25" is a very healthy average length—and, coincidentally, the same as mine. Your 4.5" girth (with 4.75" at the base) is close to that of my best friend's penis, which is 5.0" long. The slight left curve is also common. I used to think my  left curve was from wanking with my right hand, but I'm told that's not really a factor. I switched to my left hand decades ago without any change; my best friend has always used his left hand and has a slight left curve, although not as noticeable as mine. 

BTW, have you ever tried the toilet-paper roll test? Slide an empty center roll over your erection, and see how it fits. Although center roll sizes vary slightly among manufacturers' products, a Charmin center roll is approximately 3.7/8" long, 5.0" circumference (girth), and 1.5" diameter.

All things considered, your dimensions indicate you have a fine peen. Be proud of what you have; show it off, and never leave home without it.

@Vinnig Thanks for the compliment. Since my penis curves to the left, I used to think this was from jerking off with my non-dominant hand. I find it easier to jerk off with left hand than right, even though right handed, weird I know. I realize now that my curvature is just how I am built. I am glad to hear that you feel I am a very “healthy average”. I have not tried the toilet paper roll test, I will need to try that especially with the Charmin roll. I would probably fit just right or a little loose given my erect circumference.

Himmmm? What are you doing with the mouse on the internet while handling yourself with the left?  I've never run into that problem.  Same hand for both functions never seemed to cause a conflict for me.

@Jballer29  Based on your info, you are totally average and we share almost identical erect size.  I am just a fraction longer.  I had a convo with my waxer about size and she told me (and she is not one to lie to me) that I am totally average size and she sees a number of men who are smaller than I am.  There are also bigger ones but she said they were not as common as people think.  Over her 15+ years of doing male waxing, she has seen hundreds of penises.  It do trust her comments.  Now when I am fully flaccid and retracted, I am definitely smaller than average.  I am finally starting to accept this is just the way it is and just enjoying what I have.  Been a long struggle but finally seeing some light.

That's a great insight @smallgrower, I'm inclined to agree that the vast majority of us are average, we tend to remember the big ones we see and forget about the small and average. I do still find myself comparing to others, but equally have accepted I tend to shrivel up most of the time. Being seen by others and being unafraid has been beneficial to me.

I might add this suggestion, which greatly helped me.  Too much porn and Internet pics are only showing large size penises outside of the SPH world.  Since most average to smaller guys don't have the confidence to post dick pics, you really never get a good representation of this half of the population.  Finally a couple months back, I decided to do a paid membership to this site, which gave me access to the gallery pictures.  That made a big difference in how I saw myself, as I finally was seeing other penises that I could relate to and not in a humiliating way.  Just normal people with small to average size cocks.

There are different levels of subscription and I found doing the annual for $100 (under $8.50 a month) membership, has been so worth finally being able to accept myself and to feel normal and that I am okay the way I am.  Trust me, that is the cheapest money spent as my copay for my therapist is $20 and after years did not give me the level of acceptance I have gotten in the last couple months.

Just something to think about, as you continue on your journey.  BTW, my journey started about 10+ years ago with self doubt (actually for most of my adult life but more focused to my issue in the last few years) and has been a long struggle.  Since April this year, with talking to some trusted people, reading that book and accessing the gallery, I have come further in 3 months than in 10 years.

You seem squarely in the average category. And I think erections at the doctor's is not uncommon, though it can still feel awkward.

My own experiences changed over time. When I was young the Dr always had me disrobe to underwear, then would pull them down to and do the cough test. Erections were super common and awkward. As time went on it seems Drs are way less interested in checking the bits out unless going there for a particular issue that involves them. Still tend to get a semi if it comes to that though.

Great post @smallgrower, I think porn has significantly skewed people's perceptions on what's normal and has left many feeling inadequate from an increasingly early age. Back in my day, porn was only in printed form, usually passed around after school when one of your mates "borrowed" a magazine from their father or brother.

Amateur porn sites offer some respite from the bigger is best attitude of mainstream porn, and it's good to see average people having fun and sharing pics.

We've had a few programmes on mainstream TV in the last decade or so which in my opinion are absolutely needed to demystify what is normal and average. Embarrassing Bodies invited people to be looked at and treated by doctors and openly discuss their issues.

Sex Education show was done in schools, and they would have "models" representing average people from twenties to sixties appearing nude via a TV link. Again they would walk about what is normal, and many of the teens said that porn had been a bad influence, and schools often steered away from sex education.

We currently have Naked Attraction, dating in reverse where people starts naked, so you really do see all shapes and sizes.
