How to delete old messages

A site member recently used the Contact Us link to ask how to delete old messages.

Members who are not SOS Subscribers are limited to 50 active Private Message (PM) threads at any one time.  (SOS Subscribers have no limit.)  So you may want to delete some or all of your old PM threads.  Here's how to quickly delete the old PMs you want to get rid of:

When logged in, click the Message icon (an envelope) near the top right corner of any page on the site.  At the bottom of the drop-down list that appears, click the "Go to Inbox" link.

In the page that appears, there is a scrollable list of all of your active PMs on the left.  There is a check-box at the front of each entry in the list.  Click the check-box for each PM you want to remove.  With one or more PMs checked there will be a Delete icon (trashcan) at the bottom of the page.  Click that icon to delete all of the checked messages.

Be aware, this only removes the messages from YOUR active PM list.  So they no longer count against your quota.  But the message doesn't get deleted from the system until the other participant in the thread also deletes it.
