External Cam on Macbook Pro

lilpeter

Question

This is in regards to a chatroom issue. I am using a Macbook Pro with a built in cam that works fine in the chat room. My issue is that I am one of those who prefers not to show his face at this time. I am gay but still in the closet and wish to stay that way for the time being.

But I do like to participate in vid chat, problem is that I have to tilt the screen down to aim the camera where I want it but then I cannot read the screen or type out any responses to any on going chat.

I bought a logitech cam that works fine as long as i am using the logitech software but I cannot get the vid chat room to see the external cam. I have tried everything but it will only see the built in cam. I am not as techy as I used to be especially on a Mac.

Does anyone have any ideas?  I am on OS X v10.9.5

Thanks in advance

Ok not sure if you have the same screen.  but when I launch the cam mine defaults to my logitech cam (I have a built in and logitech)
, BUT in the corner of the cam window I have a settings button

When I click on it I get a pop up that lets me select.

okay, I figured it out

connect the cam to USB

open Photo Booth

see if the camera turns on, if it doesn't go to the other USB port

once the cam is working go to the Camera menu in Photo booth and select the USB cam

once it switches over it will then work in our chat room. May take a little fidgeting

You may also need to click on the Gear for settings in Chat and select the USB cam there also

Good luck y'all

I had concerns, my PC doesn't have enough USB ports so I bought a hub.
Webcam, Action Cam, Phone Charger, Battery Charger, External Drive, Printer and 2 wireless mouse/keyboard receivers all running off one USB

Miraculously everything works.
OH and I use the 2 empty slots for thumbdrives.
