Some reviews I have read have said that the sleeves don’t stay on properly and bend, whilst I have heard that strap one are a bit fiddly, does anyone have any recommendations which I should choose as they aren’t exactly an item you can try on before you buy

I have tried a couple sleeves, (one that just went around the shaft and one that covered the whole penis and had a ball loop to keep it held in place) and one with a harness.  In all cases, my wife did not like them as 1. they seemed cold and not natural feeling and 2. she lost the emotional connection to me, by not being skin on skin between the penis and vagina.

Before you get too far down this rabbit hole, talk to your wife and find out if she is open to the idea of trying one with you.  You might find she isn't interested and you are only wasting your money and both of your emotions in the end.

I have a sleeve from Blissful Creations.  Them along with Sensual Extensions are two online sellers that I’m familiar with.  The one I have from Blissful Creations does bend if I don’t fit it on properly, as there is a gap between where the internal sleeve ends and where the top of my penis is.  You need to properly measure yourself. Both sites should have a guide to help. BC was very helpful with additional questions I had and had a great experience.  
 

We have a strap on but the angle is off since it has to sit above my penis.  You can get hollow ones but the silicone ones are expensive from what I’ve seen. The cheaper ones are made from PVC.  We only use silicone for insertable toys for safety reasons. 
 

Whatever you decide to use, warm it up first using a heating pad. Wife did not like the first time we tried it as it was cold.  So I’ve heated it since and it’s much better. 
 

I did ask my wife first if she’s be interested in trying one and she was fine with it. We don’t use it every time but from time to time she calls for it.

My recommendation is: It depends on your girth.  If the sleeve fits "girthwise" its a good deal.  Buit if the sleeve is loose on your penis then get a strap on.

I guess I have two pieces of advice from my experience:

To use either type of product you must know your accurate , erect, measurements to know if it will fit you!  I am very small at 2.75 long by 1.25 hard
 

Penis sleeves never worked for me, even the ones that wrap around your sack.  There were three problems for me:  a strapless sleeve would always slip off because I’m so thin, the longer ones: 6 inches or longer, with a strap, had too much hollow space and were impossible to get consistent penetration while thrusting, the strap got uncomfortable for me too
