JTT Posted August 12 Report Posted August 12 Hey Guys, We have had some issues over the last week. Our website was getting hacked. No data was compromised, but hackers were using scripts to redirect traffic and send spam and do other nefarious things. This website has been around for many years, and through many different versions of forum software.... so we had a lot of directories of outdated software and I believe they were able to gain access and put backdoors in some of these older software directories. Our current message board (Invision) was actually fine. But they kept changing the home page to redirect or include other things and so you couldn't always get to the forum. After a week of trying to squash it, our webhost was no help, and I was forced to hire a server tech to help me track things down. We were unable to kill all the backdoors and keep them from coming back. So we've tried a very aggressive tactic this time. We nuked everything, and reinstalled our forum from scratch. Then before putting back any old folders of pictures, or videos or all the other old fun stuff we had laying around, we made sure there were no hidden scripts. Then we put these items back - and we locked the directories down. So nothing can run or be changed except this current forum, which we do keep up to date. The downside, when I put everything back, our theme that we were using didn't work anymore... and it's no longer for sale. So I had to switch us to the default theme and customize it a bit to look a bit like the old theme. So yes, things will look a bit different. But it's functional, and safe, etc... Appreciater Posted August 12 Report Posted August 12 I do notice that to do a direct response to a post, you have to enter the person's site name manually. You can do a complete quote, but not a direct response to a person's post without typing it in.

Please put at least the word spam in the description box of the report. Do not click any link in the body of the spam post. We have no idea if these spam posts are connected with the hacker attack.
