External Web Cam for Chat?

I'n on a macbook air and I do like to engage in the video chat but only have the built-in camera which makes it difficult to communicate while on video.  Can anyone recommend a good external cam for my laptop?

I bought a $30 cam at Walmart and it seems to work fine.  I've had a few people comment on the good quality of the picture.

You can sometimes use your phone as a webcam and tether to the laptop wirelessly. Not sure if that works here, but has worked for me on another forum.

I was thinking of that but I figured it would get complicated so I'd rather just get a dedicated cam.

You'd probably need a stand for the phone as well, which will probably be the cost of a cheap webcam anyway. I'm PC based but I expect most modern ones will work on PC or Mac. I had a Logitech, but it's too old to work with Windows 10.

Hate the new Logitech software and my newish cam won't work with my old software.
Using Cyberlink YOUCAM software to run my webcam. 
allows for zooming, can move the zoomed area to where I want,
Can set resolution 
Add effects, stickers....

Bit of a pain and doesn't always launch when going into video chat, then have to launch manually.

I use my iPhone as a cam and it works great - just have bluetooth on and your MacBook should detect it. Just turn on your cam in the chat room, click the little gear, and you should be able to select your iPhone as a source. I put mine on a tripod.
