I'm kind of surprised you saw a video like that, that never would have been allowed at my school. When I said sex education was non-existent, I meant it ... essentially zero.

A far as "the talk" from my father, again it was near zero. About the only thing he said, and this was right before I left for the Navy (he had served in the Navy during WW2), he said "wherever you end up, if you're tempted to indulge with the local ladies, use protection" that was pretty much the sum of my sex education. Well, officially anyway, most of what I learned I learned from listening to the older boy's talk.

All I ever wanted when I was a kid was to be told that I was normal and ok, and we didn't have any resources back then to find out anything.

I never had the slightest bit of sex education at home or in school. But amazingly by the time I had my first female sex I knew everything I needed (I was always very inquisitive, creative and adventurous). It was mainly about translating that knowledge into actions and acquiring experience.

As I recall, and it's been a while so my memory is vague. One of the teachers (the social studies teacher I think) actually taught a single class in sex education, apparently there was a handout but I never saw it, and the next day he was told in no uncertain terms that he was never to teach that again (I'm assuming that one of the kids brought that handout home and the parents freaked out), so only a single class ever got to hear this presentation, but everyone was talking about it. And what was so shocking about that handout? I never actually saw it but apparently the handout said that masturbation was perfectly normal and that most kids did it.

My mom would have never done that. I think she considered herself progressive (for the time anyway), but some things, like sex, were simply not discussed. I'm sure she had hangs-ups about sex, and other things. She was born in 1927.

I was the 4th of 4 kids and much younger than all my siblings. I have a Sister 14 years older, a brother 12 years older, and a sister 9 years older. So my parents had pretty much seen it all. By the time I hit puberty, my siblings were 25, 23, and 20. Two were married. One had a child. Maybe it's just me, but I think that's way over the line for parental behavior. I can understand being concerned over your kid's health, but it could have been handled (no pun intended) differently.

Luckily, it was my father that took me to see the doctor, I would not have wanted my mother to do that, and he just sat off to the side and didn't say anything. Parents are notorious for saying embarrassing stuff. He stopped coming in the exam room when I hit my teens, and I was thankful for that.

My Dad traveled for work and was seldom around. He'd leave on Monday and not come home until Friday for most of my youth. Mom was a stay at home mom, and she took care of the kids. The regret of what could've been done in the past is very real for me though.   It's something I have trouble managing and causes me substantial problems if I stumble over it.

I think everyone, men and women, have regrets about things they did, or didn't do, in the past. I think that feeling is almost universal. My last girlfriend got pregnant at 15, and her and the guy (I should really say boy) got married at 16. The marriage lasted just short of a year. She spent her late teens and twenties being a single mother. Her life was filled with many regrets.

I had very little sex Ed in school.  I was advised a few times from my female doctor about puberty and what would happen.  At physicals my female doctor would say pull that foreskin back so I can see it and she would look at the head of mine.
