I posed this question to an internet search and got an answer that was interesting.  See below.  However, for me personally (given that I am a gay man!) My experiences are most likely different to the rest. 
I’m extremely tiny, 1 inch soft and just 3 inches hard and it’s very skinny too.

I never over estimate -- I actually measured my previous boyfriend and it was 9.3 inches but I just said 9.  What is the point of my saying 9.3.  But, they say 9+ is about as rare as 3 inches or less.  But, it does exist and I personally have encountered very large penises because when I was less than 30 years old I was a very cute twink that well hung men wanted to fuck and often did.  Now I am born again and only accept men with 6 inches or less and preferably less.  However, for me, personality, looks, and ethics are far more important than penis size.
