How to Measure? What's the standard here?

Recommended Posts

Let's use scientific measuring to find out the true dimensions of a man. First, you need a tape measure.

Secondly, use the diagram (attached to this post) to make accurate measurements. You'll want to measure the exact length of the penis from the meatus (that's the opening of the urethra) to the fat pad. The physicians from UCSF were careful to really push the fat pad down, and you should be, too.

For the best results, take measurements of the penis in flaccid, stretched, and erect states. You'll get more reliable numbers.

Again, when measuring the circumference, be sure to push the fat pad aside with the measuring tape so you can get the best results.

Variations

Now, some inconsistencies will inevitably result. Flaccid measurements are less accurate than erect measurements. Cold or warm weather can also affect the findings.

Obesity

Obesity can also affect the results. The team of UCSF researchers noted in their findings that, "The depth of the fat pad may significantly alter the perception of penile length. An increase in fat pad depth will decrease the visible pendulous length of the penis. Many men complain of a retractile penis, and obesity contributes to this phenomenon."

The researchers further stated that knowing the truth could reduce anxiety. "Knowledge of functional penile length," they wrote, "including that buried by the fat pad, may decrease anxiety concerning erect size in certain men."

They suggest that for men whose obesity is creating a perception of smaller penis size, weight loss or liposuction may represent less drastic steps to enhance a man's self-image about his penis size - i.e. fat is the real culprit.

In the end, the researchers suggest that only men whose flaccid length is less than 2.8 inches or erect of 3.5 inches would be considered "subnormal" in size. And again, only one in 80 of their research subjects was near that standard.

Sizing It All Up - The Result? Peace Of Mind

The upshot of all this? Well, perhaps once you've measured these private parts and figured out personally relevant statistics, you should be able to sleep better - whether you're alone or with someone else - because you will have put this issue to rest.

Thanks guys for this scientific info. Would like to make a clarification that was quite confusing on first read. I quote from the above:

"Use the diagram (attached to this post) to make accurate measurements. You'll want to measure the exact length of the penis from the meatus (that's the opening of the urethra) to the fat pad. The physicians from UCSF were careful to really push the fat pad down, and you should be, too."

What does "really push the fat pad down" mean? Push it flatter against the pubic bone? I asked my urologist and he explained that the medically correct way to measure is by pushing the fat pad from above the penis down so that it is now right in contact with the top of your penis and then measure from this point to the meatus when flaccid, stretched and erect.

Hope this helps clarify this. Mark

A nifty video showing how to measure - courtesy of Scott8361

Here is a link to a You Tube video where a woman shows the proper way to measure...

She also has one answering the question if size really matters...

Hey guys, that first post and the link is telling you how to measure a FLACCID penis, FYI. The video is good. Here is a diagram and write-up off the Fleshlight website....

girth.jpg

When erect, the average penis length is approximately 5-6 inches with an average girth (circumference) of approximately 4-5 inches. Refer to the illustration on the left for an explanation of measuring length and girth. Use of a measuring tape is suggested for taking measurements.

I just read this in detail and realized how important it is for all of us, so we are comparing apples with apples.

I didn't realize that that I am to push down into the fat pad at the top of the penis. When I did that (flaccid), I went from 2" to 4"!

I'm looking forward to getting an erection and re-measuring. Make sure you measure correctly, guys!

Hi,

I'm new to this site and wanted to ask if somebody has actually read the following study:

"Does penile size in younger men cause problems in condom use? a prospective measurement of penile dimensions in 111 young and 32 older men"

It's a study from a German university, and it gives an average length of 14.48 cm (5.7 inches). Somewhere I read about this length to be bone-pressed. Can anybody confirm that? Unfortunately the access to the full paper costs 30$.

Years ago I read that European condoms are longer than American ones. The reason is not that Europeans have longer penises. It's that most Europeans have not been circumcised. The European way to put on a condom is first to peel the foreskin back, roll the condom down to the penis base, pull the foreskin back in place over the head, then roll the condom down to the base again. This allows the foreskin to move during sexual activity, which is quite stimulating and appreciated by Europeans if you have seen Euro porn (straight or gay).

By the way, here's a condom joke I remember from years ago. A guy asked me, "You know that number at the bottom of a condom?" "I didn't know there was a number at the bottom of a condom," I replied. "I didn't think so!" he shot back.

Of course I had to buy a condom to see if this was true, and it is. Those of us who have never had to roll a condom all the way down to its bottom have never seen the number. So my friend's "I didn't think so!" was a put-down of my penis size. (Little did he know that it was correct!)

Live and learn!

so when i measure my erect penis, I shouldn´t press it paralle to the floor ?

I'd wonder how many erect penises you had seen if you think that a little over 7" isn't all that big. (And this doesn't count the guys in porn movies, because they are all chosen for their abnormally large size.)

I can't tell your orientation from your profile, but most straight guys haven't seen that many erect penises except for porn -- which is why many of them feel small when they aren't.

Like I've said before, we need to see each other erect more often!

You are totally correct about the current studies being inaccurate because they are mostly self-measure results. The fact is that this measurement is one that has been a question mark for many years. Now I found something new that eliminates all of those problems. It's called a phallumeasure (brand name: The FINAL SAY) and it is a clear plastic ruler that is cylindrical in design. The shape of the ruler makes it impossible to cheat, and it forces the man to start from the same exact point every time he measures. If every man began using these things, we would finally have some accurate numbers to reference, as well as compare with. Check them out at WWW.SIZEOFAMAN.COM

There is also some funny stuff on the site about how men have cheated in the past. I laughed my ass off.

The only thing wrong I see with this device is that it only goes to 8.5 inches. That wouldn't work for me. :roflmao:

(In reality)

2" visible flaccid (uncut)

4" visible erect (was 5" before prostate removed in 2000)

Plus add 2" if I push down into fat pad (so the part that is not visible is measured).

Sorry but I'm still a little confused. If you measure to the opening of the urethra, does that mean that the tape measure should bend around the head of the penis or that it should be measured straight up to and in line with the urethra? And do I push the fat pad right down so it is flat on the pubic bone? Sorry, but every mm counts!!!
